Role Overview:
As the Training Manager, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing our chemical fleet's operational excellence through comprehensive training programs. Reporting directly to the COO, you will assess current training procedures, identify future needs, and develop innovative training strategies both onboard and onshore.
Responsibilities:
- Assess current training procedures and identify future training needs for both onboard crew and shore-based personnel.
- Design and maintain comprehensive training programs for all ranks at sea and positions ashore.
- Implement a wide range of modern training methods both onboard vessels and at the office.
- Regularly update the training program (every 4 months) in collaboration with department heads and present updates to the COO.
- Monitor key crew members during job tasks and provide hands-on guidance aligned with best practices in safety and industry standards.
- Deliver real-time coaching and skill enhancement while onboard, fostering continuous improvement in safety and performance.
- Maintain and manage a structured training database, including curriculum content, materials, and individual training records.
- Define and assign specific training modules tailored for each rank onboard.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of all training initiatives and adapt programs as needed to ensure ongoing relevance and impact.
- Provide regular training summary reports to senior management, highlighting progress and outcomes.
- Stay informed of industry developments, especially training standards mandated by oil and chemical majors, as well as TMSA guidelines.
- Select, manage, and integrate training materials from existing providers (e.g., Shell, Videotel, Karco) and new vendors in line with client policy.
- Conduct final interviews of Masters, Chief Officers, and Deck Officers joining the fleet.
- Actively participate in the Promotion Committee to assess career advancement candidates.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Chief Mate STCW Reg. II/2 Unlimited or Marine Chief Engineer STCW III/2.
- Minimum 1 year experience as Captain, Chief Officer, or Chief Engineer on chemical tankers.
- At least 3 years of experience ashore in a Training Manager or Marine Superintendent role.
- Strong commitment and ability to manage demanding workloads and travel schedules.
- Proficiency in English (high level).
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- Ensure at least 1 visit per vessel annually.
- Average 3 days onboard per vessel (excluding travel).
- Adjust training programs based on company needs at least 3 times a year.
